Festival Hairstyles

Hello there!

From the title you could be thinking “Umm, Lili, wasn’t Coachella in April? Isn’t it a bit too late…or early?” or “People don’t usually do these kinds of posts for Lollapalooza…” maybe “Glastonbury ended not too long ago, but you’re still a bit late.”

Well my friend, let me tell you something! The festival world contains a lot more than those three!

In fact, one of Europe’s biggest festival is coming up, the Sziget Festival, and as of I’m attending all the seven days, I thought that for the first few days I’d sport a few boho-but-still-practical-and-cute and bit-more-edgy-and-wild hairstyles. After that my hair will end up in a ponytail anyways.

1. Basic plaits (braids)

This is literally one of the easiest, fastest and effortless hairstyles ever for a festival.

If you don’t know how to braid hair, basically you part your hair for three sections and then place them over each other alternately. I know, I know, that was the poorest way of describing the method, but there are 1000 and 1 tutorials out there. I believe in you.

Keeping in mind that you’re going to a festival, it doesn’t need to be perfect. If you have bangs, you can leave them in the front for a more laid back look.

2. Lazy milkmaid braid

Starting out from your basic plaits, you are just going to cross them and pin them at the back of your head, close to your neck.

3. Normal milkmaid braid

This hairstyle is very similar to the previous one, but this time, you’re going to pin the plaits at the top of your head, and if you’d like you can curl your bangs too. I’d recommend doing it, because doing so will pull the look more together.

4. Side french(ish) braid

In this hairstyle we’re going to use a bit of french braiding, but don’t worry if you’re not good at it! I’m straight up almost terrible at it! That’s the reason why I’m going to stress it again: you’re going to a festival, it does not need to be perfect. The messier the better.

On one side of your pretty head (it doesn’t matter which side) you have to section off the front part of your hair. Pin the rest back, so you can work without killing all of your nerves. Then half the front part of your hair, and start with one of the braids. If you’re really feeling it, then of course you can do as many little braids as your heart desires. Three, four, even on both sides! It really depends on what you want to do.

(Yes, I do know that I have bags under my eyes. They’re designer pieces.)

5. Classic fountain

This is when you (and I) give up boho braids, and just, basically, want our hair out of our face. It’s quite self explanatory. We all had this hairstyle around four. Now we wear it again. Evil circle.

The best thing about all of these is that if you have enough bobby pins, then they’re going to be secure as hell too. All of that festival dancing and jumping around won’t hurt them (for a while at least, but I won’t take any responsibility if they fall apart after a good crowd and sweat session, so sorry).

Which hairstyle was your favourite?

Are you attending any festivals before the summer ends?

Lots of love,
